Laurie's Birthday Fun

We celebrated our little princess' birthday at her school with all her friends and teachers. She was ecstatic when she walked into the room and saw everything nicely decorated with the theme she'd chosen. Most of her classmates had celebrated their birthday at school, so she was super happy that now it was her turn to be the center of attentions. Laurie chose a chocolate cake and it was a-m-a-z-i-n-g! Actually, it was a brigadeiro cake, which is oh so much more than just chocolate. Yum-yum!

It goes without saying that I was extremely happy to see her so happy and having a great time.

Here are several photos of the happy event, naturally.

All seven dwarves were present:

Puppies!

Once upon a time, on the 12th of September, our dog, Misty, gave birth to three puppies. That was quite the ordeal and sadly, one of them only survived a few days. The other two are growing quite quickly and are the cutest balls of fur ever! Here are a few pics of one of them. The other one was taking a snooze so photos will be posted at a later date. :)

They opened their eyes yesterday (10-days-old):

Such a fatty!

Bookshelves and a Weirdo

... or the other way around.

 A weirdo in the mirror:

(what a mess!)

The lil' weirdo strikes a pose:

Then helps daddy put up a shelf:

"And that's how it's done!"

At last! The shelves are up!

The weirdo sniffs a flower:

Then grins a silly grin:

Too much weirdness!

A Food-Filled Holiday

Last Friday was Brazil's Independence Day, luckily for us. Luckily, because that meant that since the holiday landed on a Friday, we got to have a 3-day weekend. Needless to say, it's always super duper welcome. :)

We started it out by feasting on roasted short ribs with barbecue sauce. Ultra fatty, but soooo good. The next evening, we took the girls to the amusement park and then had pizza. More yummy-ness. The evening after that, we made a scrumptious 3-cheese stuffed shell pasta ... divine! Oh, right, and earlier that day we'd gone out for ice-cream. On the last day of the glorious holiday weekend, everyone came over for a fun afternoon of Wii games, drinks, and my mom's heavenly food.

Aside from the boring happenings which took place, such as studying for a test, doing laundry, etc., etc., it was a pretty nice, and definitely yummy, holiday. Our bellies are grateful. :D

Hip hip hooray for Brazil! Hip hip hooray for good food! Hip hip hooray for people who know how to cook!

And here are a few humble pictures of the pasta:

The Facebook Issue

One fine day last week, my 8-year-old arrived home from school and asked me if she could have a Facebook account because all of her friends as well as her teacher have one.

Oh, God! Why?!

I was really hoping she'd only want to get into this kind of stuff in a few years. Sigh.

We, her parents, established a few guidelines regarding her use of it. Hopefully this new world she's entering of social networks will do more good than harm. Sigh again.
